An animated, playable television environment

Between 1998 and 1999, Artematica and Duel developed Solletico’s first animated virtual sets for RAI 1, set in the world of Millelandia.

The presenter enters the digital scene in real time; animations and mini-games become part of the same television environment rather than separate elements of the programme.

Inverse camera tracking on Pentium 120 PCs

The inverse camera-tracking system uses computerised, motorised synchronisation to connect the camera with the virtual set.

This architecture delivered animated virtual-set quality that was out of reach even for the expensive Silicon Graphics workstations of the time, using standard Pentium 120 PCs.

Scene

Animated virtual set

A three-dimensional environment synchronised with the camera and updated in real time.

Interaction

Mini-games

Playable activities are integrated into the same Millelandia environment.

Hardware

Pentium 120

The system achieves the result with standard PCs instead of dedicated graphics workstations.
